Crowdstrike and University of Westminster

The University of Westminster, established in 1838, faced various cybersecurity challenges in 2021, including the inadequacy of legacy antivirus software, high risk of attacks and reputational harm, surging threat of ransomware attacks, limited security coverage, evolving needs of remote working and learning, and major security visibility gaps. To address these challenges, the university chose to implement CrowdStrike Falcon Complete managed detection and response (MDR) service. The university found the MDR service appealing due to its cost-effectiveness, scalability, and resilience. CrowdStrike Falcon Complete MDR provided 24/7 coverage, improved threat defense, and enhanced security posture. It also offered operational efficiencies, responsiveness, and unified visibility across the university’s systems. The university selected CrowdStrike based on its speed, scalability, ease of deployment, wide range of supported operating systems, mature MDR capabilities, and experienced security analysts. The deployment of CrowdStrike’s solution was smooth and efficient, with the team installing the Falcon agent to over 5,000 endpoints and 400 servers within four weeks. The university conducted a proof-of-value trial before the full deployment and experienced a successful transition from legacy antivirus to CrowdStrike’s next-gen AV with no performance issues.
